I can never forget how long it took me to heal my Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease. And did it naturally!
I remember very well the day I went to see my doctor with heartburn blazing in my throat. Over-the-counter medications were not working for me. Instead of giving me a renewed Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs) prescription, my doctor recommended I find a natural solution to managing my Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). I was young; I did not smoke and worked out daily. I felt super healthy. And about my diet? I thought I ate great! My doctor even said it; I was healthy! And when he refused to write me a prescription to end my suffering from heartburn, I thought he was evil!
Of course, I challenged his decision. He prescribed me those pills a couple of years. What is the difference now? The doctor discussed some findings on using PPIs and explained that the medications would not heal the condition. He also told me that research showed that long-term use of PPIs was proven to be disadvantageous to the health of patients, which is why he is empowering me to find a natural way to heal my acid reflux.
A persistent heartburn problem
The first place I searched for answers was Google; most advice I found was changing my diet. I did, but my heartburn persisted, and it became worse. I sought the advice of another doctor, but the answer was the same, I was again encouraged to treat the acid reflux naturally.

I talked with friends and family about my condition and was shocked that many related to recurring heartburn. However, for each person I spoke with, the problem was not chronic like mine.
Speaking about my condition to the people I knew helped me find guidance on who to consult for healing naturally. A family member told me about her consultations with a herbalist and referred me to her. She felt that the herbalist could help me since she, the herbalist, dealt with GERD a few years ago. Her experience was why she studied herbalism and became a herbalist. She, and with the help of a seasoned herbalist, used herbs to rebalance her digestive system with the use of herbs. This method was her answer to healing acid reflux naturally.
Because the herbalist experienced GERD first-hand, I felt she would know what I was going through. In consulting with her, I learned that it took around nine months for her to heal her reflux. After nine months, she could return to eating almost anything she wanted. Her story gave me so much hope!
On top of consultations with the herbalist, I continued speaking to more people to learn how long it takes to heal. Different healthcare providers who used natural treatments to treat GERD and acid reflux in their practice set an expectation that I could be healed well within six months.

Much to my surprise, nine months came and left… I was not healed! Although, I did have reduced occurrences of heartburn, which was a big win. But being healed? I was far from it, I felt.
It took me two years to heal my acid reflux using natural remedies. There was no cure for my GERD, but I used many approaches that helped me get my gut health back.
The two years it took me to heal is not the ideal timeframe you’d like to hear; I’m confident. It is, nonetheless, how long it took me to achieve success.
If I had GERD again, I would treat it naturally once more. It was a slow process, but my body is more vital today. What’s more, my digestive system works better than ever.
Conclusion
I hope you heal faster than I did, but I am super grateful that I can eat everything I want. I maintain healthier habits in cooking, making good food choices, and leading an overall healthier lifestyle.
If your condition permits it, find natural ways to treat acid reflux. You can do this.
