Our book review today is “The Everything Guide to the Acid Reflux Diet”. A book authored by Edward R. Rosick, a doctor in preventative medicine, as per our research. The book provides detailed guidance on managing acid reflux through dietary changes.
The early pages introduce you to the basics of acid reflux by explaining the anatomy of the digestive tract and how some people develop acid reflux.
The book includes information on the causes and symptoms of acid reflux and tips for identifying trigger foods that can exacerbate symptoms.
Additionally, the book contains over 100 delicious and easy-to-prepare recipes specifically designed to reduce acid reflux symptoms and improve overall digestive health. Overall, the book is a valuable resource for anyone looking to manage their acid reflux symptoms through dietary changes.
What I loved about this book:
I loved that the book’s content was similar to the cover: simple, plain, and direct-to-the-point.
I like that the author spent time explaining the various medications available for treatment and, like the other authors, emphasized that medications are not a cure to the problem.
Acid Reflux Surgery
The author had a positive tone towards surgery, which I found heartwarming because it is some individuals’ only option. The passage about surgery gives courage as it has an uplifting outlook and ends with advice on recovery.
Holistic Therapies for Acid Reflux
One thing that was missing from other acid reflux books I’ve read so far was the discussion on holistic therapies. This opinion is completely biased because, on top of modifying my diet, I used holistic therapies to heal, and the results were excellent for me. I love telling everyone about my experience working with alternative therapies. The author talks a little about Acupuncture, how to use vitamins to your advantage if you take PPIs, herbal therapies, and even hypnosis!
Acid Reflux Diet
When it comes to the recipes, this book has them in abundance. My favorite section was the smoothies because the recipes are simple, and most are free from dairy and added sugar. Personally, looking back on my first two years dealing with acid reflux, I could not have used this diet to heal because there were too many ingredients used that made me sick. Dairy and sugar were two of the culprits that greatly irritated my reflux. In the recipes provided, you’ll also find the use of hot chilies, Tabasco sauce, vinegar, alcohol, and citrus juices; I could not eat any of those things without experiencing horrible symptoms that lasted for days.
I liked the abundance of different fruits and vegetables used in the recipes. I’m pretty sure it’s safe to assume that your taste buds would not get bored!
Conclusion
The diet is American/Canadian, with splashes of Asian touches. It is not typical of what I’m used to eating, but many recipes sound delicious.
There’s nothing about this book that I did not like. It’s an easy read, and coupled with the meal plan provided, it is super easy to implement the dietary interventions.
I would give this book 4 out of 5 stars. It’s an excellent resource that I could see someone keeping in their kitchen for years.
